Railcar Loaders are responsible for safe and efficient rail car loading and unloading services in a safety and environmentally sensitive, customer service-driven environment. Incumbents must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety while meeting the customer’s schedule.
Roles & Responsibilities- Ensure safe operation of transloading equipment, applying rules, special instructions, and transloading procedures
- Makes all connections for each product transfer
- Perform daily inspection and testing of equipment and safety devices
- Report all safety and equipment problems
- Comply with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures, and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and/or Cando; practice and promote safe work habits
- Complete daily reports, logs, and other reports as required
- Provide support to switching teams as needed
- Actively participate with the team and provide excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image
- Participate in training or company initiatives as required
- Strong teamwork skills
- Ability to read and write general documentation, including safety briefings, policy and procedure manuals
- Physically fit – able to pull self up/down from a railcar or ladder, lift and twist hoses, secure rail car brakes, work from heights using fall protection, and operate derails and switches
- Must be physically fit and able to walk up to 2 miles per day and lift up to 50 pounds
- Knowledge of technology and computer systems; willingness to use Excel and Outlook daily
- Understand industrial switching regulatory and customer requirements, including safety-critical medical requirements, customer safety certifications, and CROR certification
- Work in all weather conditions
- Availability to work Monday‑Friday 6 am‑4 pm, with flexibility for occasional weekends/after hours
- HS diploma or GED
- Basic math and computer skills
- Experience handling dangerous goods and working with various products in an industrial environment is an asset
