About US 1 Shorthaul's Transportation Yard Supervisor Position:

JOB SUMMARY:

US 1 Shorthaul'sSupervisor is responsible for the activities and safe movement in receiving, storing, and shipping of finished goods. The role will directly manage and be responsible for all operational staff on site to include yard drivers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The day-to-day management and planning of the operations in accordance with KPIs and in line with customer’s expectations.
  • Work in tandem with customer’s staff to ensure operations are being executed safely and timely as well as weekly discussion for volumes, schedules, issues, etc.
  • Oversee daily operations, while controlling and managing personnel and logistics.
  • Supervise daily activities of the yard and office, including quality assurance, space management, logistics, and customer service.
  • Ensure that the demands of the sites are met and manage the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime.
  • Reviewing the as-is status of the sites and continuously identifying areas for improvement and efficiency planning.
  • Providing leadership to the staff including developmental plans, coaching of employees, and leading on engagement and culture.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards, procedures, and complying with legal regulations.
  • Daily/weekly completion or review of reports such as: auditing and approval of time sheets, complete billing of reports of labor distribution, shuttle logs, and others.
  • Inspect equipment, tools, and machinery regularly, and oversee or request general maintenance as needed.
  • Meet regularly with site leads to review, analyze, and develop actionable plans for productivity and safety.
  • Addresses performance issues and employee relations situations that affect day-to-day operations of the sites.
  • Monitors all aspects of the day-to-day operations, insuring a safe and orderly facility in compliance with all state and federal regulations and requirements.
  • Develops and supports all site personnel through on-going communication and training activities to maintain an effective team.
  • Ensuring all legislative and health and safety requirements are addressed, and appropriate departments are notified, thereby minimizing any exposure to risk.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Proficient knowledge of logistics management, procedures, and policy.
  • Solid problem-solving, decision-making, and workforce management skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead/build a team.
  • Ability to work with all levels of company staff.
  • Comfortable delivering frequent direct written and oral feedback.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate proactively and professionally with internal and external contacts at various levels.
  • Ability to perform with little supervision in a timely manner and with acceptable quality.
  • Ability to handle a variety of changing situations under stress.
  • Ability to organize materials, manage time, and prioritize tasks to complete projects on or before specified deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computers/tablets and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
EDUCATION/

EXPERIENCE:
  • CDL A (required)
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
  • 7+ years of logistics/yard/transportation experience (preferred)
  • 2+ years of supervisory roles in logistics/yard/transportation experience (preferred)
  • 1+ years of utilizing dispatching and logistics software (preferred)
  • OSHA certification (preferred)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time when working.
  • Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
