Position Summary
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for supporting the daily shipping operations of Meats By Linz by ensuring customer orders are accurately prepared, documented, staged, and shipped on time. This position works closely with Shipping, Warehouse, Production, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and Transportation to maintain an efficient flow of product.
The Shipping Clerk must be highly organized and detail-oriented, as the position requires accurate handling of product information, quantities, weights, labels, shipping documentation, and inventory records. The position operates in a fast-paced, refrigerated meat processing and distribution environment and requires compliance with company, food safety, USDA, GMP, HACCP, and safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Review customer orders and shipping instructions to ensure accuracy before product is shipped.
- Verify product quantities, weights, item numbers, labels, and customer requirements against shipping documentation.
- Prepare and maintain shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing slips, manifests, shipping labels, and other required paperwork.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipping information in company computer systems and/or ERP/WMS systems.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure orders are properly picked, staged, palletized, labeled, and ready for shipment.
- Verify that the correct product is being shipped to the correct customer and destination.
- Monitor scheduled pickups and deliveries and communicate delays or issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Communicate with drivers, carriers, customers, and internal departments regarding shipping requirements and changes.
- Maintain accurate records of outgoing shipments, including product quantities, weights, damages, shortages, and discrepancies.
- Identify and report product, inventory, labeling, or documentation discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with resolving shipping discrepancies, shortages, damages, and incorrect orders.
- Ensure proper product rotation and FIFO procedures are followed when applicable.
- Assist with inventory transfers, adjustments, counts, and reconciliation of discrepancies.
- Ensure products are maintained at appropriate temperatures and handled according to food safety requirements.
- Verify that products are properly packaged, labeled, palletized, and secured prior to shipment.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of shipping offices, docks, staging areas, and work areas.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, security, GMP, sanitation, HACCP, USDA requirements, and food safety.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow all OSHA and company safety requirements.
- Assist with loading and staging activities as needed, using pallet jacks or other authorized equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer, product, pricing, and company information.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments to keep shipping operations running efficiently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position works primarily in a refrigerated meat processing, warehouse, and shipping environment. Employees may be exposed to cold temperatures, wet floors, moving equipment, noise, and frequent movement of product and materials.
Employees are expected to maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all applicable company safety, sanitation, GMP, HACCP, USDA, and food safety requirements.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous shipping, warehouse, logistics, inventory, or manufacturing experience preferred.
