Overview

Summer Camp Counselor — Hammond, LA. Seasonal position with a salary of $11.00 - 15.00 hourly, located in Hammond, Louisiana. Job number 2020-1-27. Department:
Recreation. Opening date: 01/24/2025. Closing date: 05/03/025 8:50 AM Central.

Position runs from 04/21/2025 to 04/25/2025.

• Assisting with organization, planning, leading and teaching of one or more activity classes of the camping program including: nature study, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, special features, events or field trips.
• Acting as advisor, counselor, and go-to person for the group of participants.
• Communicating, enforcing, and adhering to rules and regulations for operation, safety and welfare of participants.
• Reporting to supervisor on activities, participants, plans, programs, problems and needs; recommending action, carrying out policies and objectives of programs.
• Maintaining appropriate records, inventories, and making reports.

Education Required: Successful completion of 2 years of college, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education or related discipline;
High School Graduation and sufficient experience working with youth may be substituted.

• Ability to direct and actively participate in activities with 10 to 15 active children between 5-14 years old; must be an experienced and active swimmer; ability to communicate clearly and concisely with campers, staff, parents, and the general public.
• Leadership skills to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in recreation staff, participants, and parents; ability to make mature decisions affecting the safety and well-being of children.
• Skilled and active participation in varied sports/recreation activities such as bowling, skating, field games, etc.
