Qualifications
- High School diploma required, or equivalent
- Prefer 1-3 years previous supervisory experience in Security field or customer service
- Must attain IAHSS Basic and Supervisor certifications within 3 months of hire into position
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to think on one’s feet and make quick decisions
- Knowledge of restraining, State and Federal criminal codes, universal precautions, PPE, MOAB, etc.
Responsibilities
Briefs Security officers on upcoming shift activityLeads and monitors staff assigned to his/her shift.Responsible for monitoring the electronic surveillance equipmentResponsible for proximity access control systemAssisting Security Manager with annual evaluations of staff, when requestedResponsible for initial evaluation training development and written compliance exam for officers assigned to his/her shiftResponsible for monitoring required license and certificates of officers assigned to his/her shiftMonitor recertification in required courses, when requestedParticipate in interviews with applicants and make recommendations to Security Department leadership, when requestedInspects uniforms and notes any discrepanciesGives officers post assignments and schedule for meals/breaks, when requestedInteracts with Nursing Supervisor to resolve problemsInspects security equipment and video surveillance equipment and reports problems to Security Department leadershipSupervises work of Security Sergeant, Officers, Dispatchers assigned to his/her shift, when requested. In addition, resolves any shift problems or conflictsIs responsible for ensuring adequate staff daily and report any issues to Security CaptainIs flexible and able to work when shifts are short of personnelIs responsible to assist Security Department leadership in the preparation of monthly shift schedules, when requestedReviews shift reports and follows up with officers to ensure compliance with shift requirementEncourage personnel to keep lines of communication open and to provide security personnel with opportunities to discuss issues and concernsParticipates in formal disciplinary actions against security personnel, when requestedParticipates in training programs as directed by the Security Department leadershipCompletes reports as requested in a timely mannerRecommends operational improvements to Security Department leadershipAttends meetings and conducts in-services as directedConducts security patrols and other duties in rotation with officers on each shiftMonitors security forms and equipment inventory to ensure that sufficient quantities are availableIs open and accessible to personnel under his/her supervisionFairly/consistently enforces all hospital and departmental policies and proceduresSets a positive example for personnel to followHas the ability to communicate effectively through writing skillsHas the ability to communicate effectively orallyDiscusses problems/concerns with Security Department leadershipShows competency in applying correct and effective crises prevention and intervention techniquesShows competency in understanding distinctions between administrative and clinical seclusion and restraintShows competency in varying interaction techniques based on age of patientShows competency in performing “Morgue Access” and “Release of Bodies” according to training guidelinesShows competency in performing :
Patient Valuable Collection” according to training guidelinesSupervises after hour courier functions, as neededPerforms all other duties as assignedFollows North Oaks Health System’s compliance programs and all federal and state regulatory guidelinesEnsures reports are written in a timely manner and proper follow-up conductedEnsures vehicle maintenance checklist is completed and deficiencies reported and/or correctedEnsures valuable are accounted for and secured upon receiptExamples of specific decisions routinely made
- Analyzes incidents and decides action to be taken
- Evaluates current environment, activity or emergency room, weather conditions, crime, stats, census, PEC/OPC, etc. and directs staff accordingly
- Releases valuables to non-family members or next of kin
- Disposition of remains
- Reviews reports for accuracy and offers suggestions, improvements, etc.
