General Overview

The primary function of this position is to repair body and paint damage to vehicles and equipment. The incumbent serves as an advanced‑level worker performing the most complex body/paint repairs on vehicles, equipment, parts, and metal fabrications. Duties include body/paint repairs, removing and replacing upholstery, electrical accessories, glass, latches, hinges, lights, and other accessories. The role requires self‑motivation, minimal supervision, and the ability to interpret unforeseen conditions.

The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs and attend continuing education classes as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience or training in automotive/equipment body repair.
Job Duties
  • Perform complex body/paint repairs on vehicles, equipment, parts, and metal fabrications; remove dents, scratches, pits, and dimples using metal cutting tools, air grinders, wrenches, welding, acetylene torch equipment, pick hammers, and punches.
  • Remove upholstery, electrical accessories, windows and seats, operating equipment, trim, headlights, bumpers, and grills to access vehicle bodies and fenders; replace windows, door latches, door hinges, and weather stripping.
  • Install external safety lights, grill guards, running boards, and toolboxes on vehicles and equipment.
  • Mix paint, reducer, and hardener ratios; match paint according to manufacturer recommendations in relation to body condition, temperature, and humidity.
  • Perform light mechanic work to assist shop mechanics or complete assignments.
  • Properly maintain tools and equipment, keeping the work area clean, organized, and in good working order.
Position‑Specific Details
  • Valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Operate a state‑owned vehicle.
  • Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat.
  • Submit to random drug testing as required.
Appointment Type

This position may be filled as a Job Appointment, Promotional, or Probationary Appointment requiring 12‑24 months on probation.

Work Schedule

Work schedule and hours may vary. The incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.

Compensation

Starting hourly rate is $22.52.
