Job Description Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan. The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural.
- Planning – identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) resulting in a documented plan of care.
- Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – determination of effectiveness of interventions, determining conclusions concerning achievement of desired outcomes, initiating reassessment if needed.
- Patient problems are prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational and social status.
- Goals provide direction for patient care and health promotion.
- Education aligned with problems and goals to empower patients.
- Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Nurses without BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year and complete within 3 years.
- Current RN license in New Jersey or active multi‑state license.
- BLS required.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will receive training and must acquire the required skill within 30-60 days from date of hire.
Performance ExpectationsDemonstrates ability to perform department‑specific competencies listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Work EnvironmentPotential exposure to hospital hazards, blood‑borne pathogens, infectious diseases, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Extensive standing and walking, including stairs.
- Lifting approximately 25-50 pounds frequently.
- Lifting approximately 50-100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
- Pushing and pulling heavy equipment.
- Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.
This position reports to patient care unit or department leadership.
