Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to join our land clearing crew. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy machinery equipped with root rakes, shears, and tree saws for vegetation management, site preparation, and land clearing projects.
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, or dozers equipped with:
- Root rakes for clearing brush, stumps, and debris
- Shears for cutting and processing trees
- Tree saws for precision cutting and vegetation control
- Clear land in preparation for development, utility installation, or right-of-way maintenance
- Follow site plans and directions from supervisors to efficiently and safely clear designated areas
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance
- Ensure safe operation in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors regarding progress, obstacles, or hazards
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment
- Assist with other clearing or construction tasks as needed
- Situational Awareness – Ability to assess surroundings and work safely in dynamic or high-traffic environments.
- Attention to Detail – Ensures precise operation, proper material placement, and adherence to site specifications.
- Communication Skills – Effectively communicates with crew members, supervisors, and other site personnel.
- Problem Solving – Able to adapt to unexpected issues on the job site and find safe, efficient solutions.
- Time Management – Manages tasks effectively to stay on schedule and meet project deadlines.
- Teamwork & Reliability – Works well with others, shows up on time, and consistently follows through.
- Adaptability – Comfortable adjusting to different job sites, work conditions, and equipment types.
Position Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 2 years operating heavy equipment in land clearing, forestry, or construction
- Skills:
- Proficient with root rake, shear, and tree saw attachments
- Understanding of safe equipment operation and field safety practices
- Ability to read site plans or take verbal instructions
Physical Demands/Requirements:
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by the Operator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- The ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, climb ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently or up to 100 pounds with assistance
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work onsite at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
