This position provides instruction that emphasizes the blending of practical experiences, technical expertise, and academic rigor; it ensures that students complete coursework in general education, professional education, and technology education. The instructor defines the current status of industry standards for health and beauty experiences in cosmetology education; builds leadership capacity by developing a collaborative network of scholars who work to improve understanding of the process of learning and teaching of cosmetology education.
This position reports to the Principal.
- Facilitates/coordinates a rigorous Cosmetology curriculum with career related instruction; assesses and provides for differentiation to assure student progress.
- Integrates core content academics and embeds high quality literature, experiences, and project-based learning assignments.
- Manages and maintains program’s assigned equipment, software, and supplies.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific formative/summative assessments, and industry-recognized technical skill assessments to evaluate students’ industry certification competency levels attainment and monitoring and development of individual learning growth and student progress towards achieving Individual Graduation Plan’s (IGP) goals.
- Sponsors and infuses an active co-curricular SkillsUSA Career Technical Student Organizational (CTSO) experience for leadership development, advanced technical skills attainment, workforce readiness preparation, and college career-readiness.
- Maintains professional development competence through on‑going educational and professional development training, as required for certification.
- Establishes and maintains industry and post‑secondary connections to promote students’ participation in continuing education opportunities.
- Engages, conducts, and documents minutes of the local school CTAE Advisory Committee for the curriculum’s career‑related activities support.
- All other duties, as assigned and required, to perform the above services.
- High school diploma or GED required with appropriate industry‑specific education.
- Minimum two (2) years of occupational work experience required; minimum one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.
- Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC Certification in the content area of specialization.
- Sound judgment, analytical/technical skills, and excellent interpersonal skills required.
- Excellent classroom management; may be designated as a lead teacher or trainer.
- Applies, recommends and implements technology solutions based on industry trends to improve the effectiveness of Cosmetology instruction.
- Responsible for the welfare of others, and requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel, parents, state and community leaders.
- Work may require travel for off‑site training and student exposure opportunities, and routine physical activities such as light lifting up to 20 lbs.
