Position Summary

Utilizes leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to provide comprehensive counseling and guidance services that support and improve academic development, career development, and personal/social development for students of all levels, from elementary school to high school. Possesses skills related to problem‑solving, planning, supervising, organizing, and scheduling and the ability to handle highly sensitive personnel matters in a timely and professional manner. This position reports to the Principal and Coordinator of Guidance Services as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and promote School Guidance and Counseling programs and implement school‑based written guidance plans; assess needs, set goals, and formulate a plan of action and program evaluation.
  • Initiate and coordinate school‑wide counseling services and activities that benefit student and staff development.
  • Implement and facilitate delivery of counseling services; conduct individual and group counseling with students in areas of need (educational, career, and personal).
  • Intervene during crisis situations and conduct appropriate referrals; meet with school personnel, parents, and agencies as needed.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, support personnel, teachers, and parents to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to student academic, career, and personal needs.
  • Assist with coordinating state and local standardized testing of students; interpret test results and other student data.
  • Assist teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies.
  • Assist school administrators in developing allotments and class schedules to meet the needs of the students.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned, to perform the above services.
Key

Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited university required.
  • Three years of school counseling experience preferred; teaching experience preferred, but not required.
  • Certificate of S‑5 from the Georgia Professional Certification in School Counseling required.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
  • Prior experience providing counseling services and programs to students in a public school setting preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations that routinely affect the activities of others.
  • Moderate level of judgment required; evaluate and provide guidance to students and approve general recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to apply, recommend, and implement technology concepts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of District operations.
  • Regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision‑making responsibility; continues contact with community resources.
Physical Demands

Normal office setting. Light duty—most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less. May require travel to off‑site locations for school site visits.
