Position Summary

The Power Electronics Engineer plays a key role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced power conversion systems, with emphasis on multilevel converter technologies for renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and high‑voltage applications. This role involves leading technical efforts in topology design, efficiency improvement, hardware integration, and cross‑functional collaboration to deliver high‑performance and reliable power solutions.

Essential Functions
  • Design and develop converter topologies, including multilevel circuits and selection of switching devices such as IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, or GaN transistors.
  • Optimize converter designs for efficiency, harmonic minimization, and robust high‑voltage operation through simulation and iterative refinement.
  • Lead hardware prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting in lab and field environments.
  • Conduct simulations and modeling using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTSpice, or PLECS.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate power electronics into larger systems, addressing protection, cooling, and scalability challenges.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis on design issues and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, UL).
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project planning and milestone tracking.
  • Manage component obsolescence for existing hardware platforms.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies such as wide‑bandgap semiconductors and advanced modulation techniques.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Provide hands‑on bread boarding, testing, and troubleshooting support.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in power electronics design, especially in multilevel converter topologies and high‑voltage systems.
  • Expertise with power semiconductors including silicon IGBTs and wide‑bandgap devices.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or SPICE‑based software.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize high‑voltage converter performance and efficiency.
  • Experience leading hardware integration and prototyping efforts.
  • Strong understanding of EMI, thermal management, and power loss modeling.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics or Power Systems.
  • 10+ years of experience, including leadership roles in FACTS, HVDC, or renewable‑energy‑integrated systems.
  • Familiarity with advanced control methods such as model predictive control or multilevel PWM strategies.
  • Experience with embedded systems, real‑time controls, FPGA/DSP programming.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and certification for high‑power equipment.
  • Experience in patent filings or technical publications related to power electronics.
  • Proficiency with PCB layout and mechanical integration tools.
