Mechanical Designer / Design Engineer - Solid Works (Power Industry)
Location:
Hampton, GA 30228
Pay Range: $26-$28 per hour (Temp-to-Direct Opportunity)
Overview
An immediate opportunity is available for a Mechanical Designer / Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting the power transmission industry. In this role, you will focus on designing and modifying mechanical components used in high-voltage disconnect switches, creating detailed shop drawings, and preparing bills of materials to support production and fabrication.
This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined designer or early-career engineer with strong Solid Works experience who enjoys hands-on design work and translating engineering concepts into detailed manufacturing documentation. The role offers exposure to specialized power equipment design and provides opportunities for long-term growth within the engineering department.
Key Responsibilities
• Create detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and sketches for parts and assemblies used in high-voltage switch products
• Develop and maintain shop drawings used for engineering, fabrication, and production
• Prepare Bills of Material (BOMs) for assemblies and sub-assemblies
• Modify and customize existing drawings to meet specific client and application requirements
• Perform mechanical, structural, and basic electrical calculations related to design preparation
• Review and process engineering orders to support manufacturing and production workflows
• Implement drawing revisions and engineering changes as directed by senior designers or application engineers
• Ensure designs meet internal engineering standards and manufacturing requirements
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure accuracy and functionality of design documentation
• Support the customization of high-voltage disconnect switch products for customer applications
Required
Skills and Qualifications
• 2+ years of mechanical design experience using Solid Works, OR a BSME / BSMET degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong proficiency in Solid Works for mechanical design and drafting
• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems and assemblies
• Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
• Ability to prepare and manage Bills of Material (BOMs)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate engineering documentation
• Ability to collaborate with engineering teams and support production requirements
• U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder required
Preferred Skills
• Experience designing components for power transmission equipment or electrical infrastructure
• Experience creating shop drawings for fabricated mechanical assemblies
• Familiarity with high-voltage switch gear or disconnect switch equipment
• Previous experience working in manufacturing, industrial equipment, or power industry environments
• Solid Works certifications or internship experience using Solid Works
• Associate degree or technical training in mechanical design or drafting
• Interest in long-term career growth within mechanical design and engineering
