Job Description & How to Apply Below

Brayton Energy is a fast-paced, innovation-driven engineering firm specializing in advanced energy system R&D. We develop next-generation turbo machinery, combustion systems, heat exchangers, and high-performance energy technologies for government and commercial clients. Our team combines deep technical expertise with hands-on prototyping to create efficient, clean, and practical solutions for modern energy challenges.

We are seeking a highly skilled Turbo machine Aerodynamicist to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic R&D environment and enjoys working from concept development through detailed analysis and experimental validation. You will support aerodynamic design and performance assessment for compressors, turbines, blowers, expanders, and other high‑speed rotating machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead aerodynamic design of turbo machinery components, including inlet/exit guide vanes, rotors, stators, diffusers, and volutes.
  • Develop steady and unsteady CFD simulations using ANSYS (CFX/Fluent) and other tools.
  • Conduct cycle analysis, flow-path design, performance trade studies, and optimization.
  • Collaborate with thermal, structural, and manufacturing engineers on integrated system design.
  • Support prototype development, design reviews, and testing activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal teams and external clients.
  • Contribute to proposal development and customer-facing technical discussions.
Professional Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (MS considered with exceptional experience).
  • 5+ years of turbo machinery aerodynamic design and analysis experience.
  • Expertise with ANSYS CFD tools, including CFX and/or Fluent.
  • Strong understanding of compressible flow, boundary layers, turbo machinery performance, and fluid-thermal interactions.
  • Experience with CAD tools (Solid Works, NX, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (MATLAB, Python) for data processing and workflow efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) or automated design workflows.
  • Background in reduced-order models, aero-thermo simulation coupling, or experimental methods.
  • Knowledge of rotating machinery fabrication, tolerances, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Prior work with small teams, rapid prototypes, or government-funded R&D programs.

Brayton Energy offers a competitive compensation package, including but not limited to a substantial annual staff bonus, industry-leading 401(k) contributions and plan options, and a range of medical plan offerings. Starting salary at $120,000 and up, based on level of education completed, and years of relevant experience.

U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents only.
