Systems Administrator, IT Support
SUMMARY
The IT Manager is responsible for the management, security, and reliability of the organizations on‑premises Microsoft‑based IT infrastructure, including support of Epicor Kinetic ERP and its underlying SQL Server environment. This is a hands‑on leadership role supporting end users while maintaining a stable, secure, and cost‑effective on‑prem environment. This position involves light SQL Server Administration in support of Epicor Kinetic and is not a dedicated DBA or Epicor developer role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInfrastructure and Service Management
- Administrator and maintain Windows Server environments (2003‑2022+).
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
- Oversee virtualization platforms (Hyper‑V).
- Manage physical servers, SAN/NAS storage, and datacenter equipment.
- Plan and execute server upgrades, Epicor Kinetic infrastructure changes, and hardware refresh cycles.
Epicor Kinetic ERP and SQL Server Support
- Serve as the primary IT contact for Epicor Kinetic ERP infrastructure and availability.
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server at a light operational level in support of Epicor Kinetic, including:
- Monitoring database health, disk usage, and scheduled jobs.
- Managing SQL Server backups, restores, and recovery upgrades.
- Applying patches and coordinating version upgrades.
- Managing basic SQL security (logins, roles, service accounts).
- Coordinate with Epicor support, Epicor partners, and consultants for upgrades, patches, and issue resolution.
- Support Epicor Kinetic reporting, integration, and user access issues. (No Epicor development, BPM design, or advanced SQL tuning required).
Security, Backup, and Disaster Recovery
- Implement and enforce on‑prem security best practices across servers and Epicor‑related systems.
- Maintain system patching, endpoint protection, and monitoring.
- Ensure Epicor Kinetic databases are included in backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Maintain offsite or immutable backups and periodically test restores.
- Document and test disaster recovery procedures for ERP systems.
End‑User and Operational Support
- Provide escalation support for Epicor Kinetic users and related applications.
- Manage user onboarding/off boarding (Active Directory, Epicor access, permissions).
- Support Windows endpoints using Group Policy, WSUS, or similar tools.
- Troubleshoot networking, printers, scanners, and shop‑floor or warehouse systems.
Leadership and Planning
- Lead and support a small IT staff and/or external vendors.
- Manage IT budgets, licensing, and Epicor maintenance agreements.
- Develop and maintain IT and ERP‑related documentation and procedures.
- Serve as the primary IT and Epicor infrastructure advisor to leadership.
- Plan system improvements while maintaining an on‑prem‑first Epicor Kinetic strategy.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience supporting on‑prem Microsoft server environments.
- Experience supporting Epicor Kinetic ERP or Epicor Classic transitioning to Kinetic.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Windows Server.
- Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Basic SQL Server administration (Epicor support).
- Virtualization (Hyper‑V or VMware).
- Networking fundamentals (switches, firewalls, VLANs).
- Experience working in a small IT team or as a primary IT resource.
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Experience with Epicor Kinetic upgrades, patches, and version transitions.
- Familiarity with Epicor administration tools and user security.
- Power Shell scripting and automation.
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery platforms (e.g., Veeam).
- Experience in manufacturing or distribution environments.
- Microsoft or Epicor‑related certifications.
- Strong infrastructure and ERP support mindset.
- Focus on uptime, data integrity, and recoverability.
- Clear communication with business users, vendors, and leadership.
- Ability to manage priorities in a lean IT environment.
- Practical, service‑oriented approach.
Work will be performed in office, on‑site. Occasional after‑hours support for ERP upgrades or maintenance. Limited travel may be required.
