Assistant Director of the Freddye T. Davy Honors College
The Assistant Director of the Freddye T. Davy Honors College provides visionary, student-centered leadership in support of high-achieving undergraduate students at Hampton University. The role helps advance the Honors College mission by managing academic programming, student support, recruitment, partnerships, and daily operations. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with the Director, faculty, staff, community partners, and campus leaders to promote academic excellence, leadership development, and holistic student success in alignment with the University’s mission.
Job Duties Academic & Program Leadership- Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of Honors curricula, seminars, and high-impact learning experiences.
- Coordinate signature Honors programs such as undergraduate research, service-learning, leadership development, new student orientation, inductions, and scholarship and internship initiatives.
- Support faculty in designing innovative Honors courses and experiential learning opportunities.
- Provide developmental and academic advising to Honors students, including guidance on course planning, research opportunities, national fellowships, and post-graduate goals.
- Plan workshops, mentoring programs, and enrichment activities that promote student engagement, retention, and Honors Graduation.
- Address student concerns, conduct interventions, and maintain regular communication with students.
- Support the strategic recruitment of high-achieving students through campus events, high school partnerships, and collaboration with Admission.
- Oversee application review processes and selection committees for Honors admissions and competitive scholarships.
- Develop outreach materials, marketing strategies, and communications that highlight the Honors College mission and opportunities.
- Manage daily administrative operations in consultation with the Director.
- Supervise staff, student workers, and student leadership.
- Prepare reports, manage program budgets, and support fundraising, grants, and external partnerships.
- Maintain data, records, and reporting systems to track student progress and program outcomes.
- Foster partnerships with academic departments, student affairs units, alumni, community organizations, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the Honors College in university committees and professional organizations.
- Master’s degree required;
Ph.D. or terminal degree preferred. Candidates may be ABD with the expectation to complete their terminal degree within one year. - At least 3–5 years of experience in higher education administration, academic advising, honors education, student affairs, or a related field.
- Demonstrated commitment to the HBCU mission.
- Experience working with high-achieving or honors-level students.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Banner systems.
- Knowledge of ADA compliance.
