Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in planning and implementing instructional activities under the direction of the classroom teacher, using a variety of instructional materials, media, and technology to enhance student learning.
  • Monitors students to ensure they complete assigned work and follow classroom instruction, providing assistance as needed, and supervising individualized and small‑group activities.
  • Assists in assessing and evaluating student achievement, modifying and tailoring instructional activities to reach achievement goals for individual students and targeted student groups, administering assessment tools, and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Supports student monitoring and control activities in the classroom and other areas of the school, including supervising buses, lunch periods, recess, and other recreational activities, and escorting students to assemblies and resource services.
  • Communicates with parents, students, and professionals in written and oral formats to inform them of student progress and activities.
  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of bulletin boards, displays, classroom decorations, and other instructional aids.
  • Performs clerical work related to instructional activities such as grading assignments, monitoring attendance, keeping lunch counts, collecting fees, and filing student work.
  • Assists with the set‑up of audio‑visual and computer equipment, prepares and laminates teaching aids, and manages supplies in the classroom.
  • Monitors the classroom environment, ensuring cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, and appropriate seating; assists with light maintenance and cleaning of toileting and eating areas as needed.
  • Participates in staff‑development activities and attends staff meetings as required by school administration.
  • May sporadically serve as a substitute teacher at the assigned school to provide continuity of instruction when the teacher is unavailable.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Associate’s degree or a qualifying score on the ETS Para Pro Assessment.
  • Experience or education related to working with students in an instructional setting (preferred).
  • General knowledge of basic reading, writing, and mathematics subject matter.
  • Some knowledge of basic instructional strategies (preferred).
  • Some knowledge of basic child learning and development principles (preferred).
  • Ability to apply basic instructional concepts and subject matter in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply written and oral instructions to assist in implementing instructional activities.
  • Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and educational achievement levels.
  • Ability to utilize modern computer technology to assist with student instruction and learning.
