DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in planning, implementing, and assessing instructional programs for students requiring special education services.
May be required to assist students with basic functions to include, but not limited to, toileting, bathing, dressing, feeding, lifting, and positioning.
Under direction of classroom teacher, assists in planning and implementing instructional activities; utilizes a variety of instructional materials, media, and technology to enhance student learning.
Monitors students in the classroom to ensure they are completing assigned work and following classroom instruction; provides assistance to students as needed; supervises individualized and small group activities as directed by classroom teacher; works with students on specific skill areas; assists teacher in directing group and individualized activities.
Assists in assessing and evaluating student achievement; as directed by classroom teacher, modifies and tailors instructional activities to reach achievement goals for individual students and targeted student groups; administers assessment tools to assess student abilities related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes; assists in maintaining appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting.
Assists with a variety of student monitoring and control activities in the classroom and other parts of the school, on school grounds, and at off-site activities; supervises the loading and unloading of buses; supervises lunch periods, recess, and other recreational activities; escorts students to assemblies, resource services, and other classes.
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of bulletin boards, displays, classroom decorations, and other instructional aids.
Performs clerical work related to instructional activities such as grading assignments, monitoring attendance, keeping lunch counts, collecting fees, maintaining files of student work, and sorting, filing, and duplicating of instructional materials.
Assists with set up of audio-visual and computer equipment; prepares and laminates teaching aids; checks out, collects, and returns teaching aids, films, records, tapes, and kits; organizes and replenishes supplies in classroom; prepares and puts away equipment and supplies such as recreational and vocational materials.
Monitors classroom to ensure comfortable learning environment is provided for students with regard to cleanliness, good ventilation and lighting, and proper seating; may assist in light maintenance and cleaning of toileting and eating areas as needed.
May be required to assists students with basic functions to include, but not limited to, toileting, bathing, dressing, feeding, lifting, and positioning. This may entail daily exposure to body fluids of students in order to assist them with personal care.
Participates in staff development activities and attends staff meetings as required by school administrator.
May sporadically serve as a substitute teacher at assigned school as necessary to provide continuity of instruction when teacher is unavailable.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Requires an associate's degree or achievement of a qualifying score on the HCS IA Assessment test.
