Responsibilities
  • Follow Army Counselor Support SOP AR 621‑5 or similar directives such as ACES Field Guide.
  • Monitor and document clients’ education goals and Student Degree Plans to achieve those goals in accordance with AR 621‑5.
  • Conduct education program briefings using prepared scripts, slide presentations, or site handbooks for face‑to‑face and electronic counseling sessions.
  • Document all counselor support sessions in the ArmyIgnitED education management system as required by AR 621‑5.
  • Provide information and guidance on Veterans’ education benefits, staying current with VA legislation related to GI Bill benefits.
  • Assist Soldiers in completing requirements for admission into military schools or commissioning programs.
  • Assist clients with school admission applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and other financial‑aid applications.
  • Provide education counseling, including establishing education and career goals, developing individual education plans, analyzing test data, and interpreting needs assessments.
  • Facilitate enrollment in ACES Programs to support the Soldier life cycle.
  • Schedule tests and assessments, read and interpret results, and assess Soldier readiness for ACES programs.
  • Create and assist Soldiers in ArmyIgnitED processes and inquiries within local timelines.
  • Prepare reports in accordance with DoD, Army, and regulatory guidance.
  • Use the Customer Assistance Tracker for all customer interactions, accurately capturing workload.
  • Assist DAC staff in executing special events such as college fairs and graduations.
  • Calculate promotion points and prepare promotion point memoranda and other required documentation for review and signature.
  • Maintain a clean, professional, and orderly work area and ensure computers and peripherals are operational.
Education and Experience Requirements

The minimum education and experience required include proficiency in the U.S. Department of Education post‑secondary education system, experience in soldier development programs, and career guidance and planning techniques. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and have at least 24 semester hours in one or more of the following areas:

  • Tests and measurement – study of selection, administration, scoring, and use of aptitude and interest tests.
  • Adult education – study of adult learners and teaching‑learning theories for adults.
  • Educational program administration – organization, planning, and evaluation of adult learning programs.
  • Curriculum development – principles and techniques for developing curricula for adult or vocational education.
  • Teaching methods – study of teaching strategies and learning styles of adult learners.
  • Guidance and counseling – role of the counselor, counseling approaches, and use of tests in counseling.
  • Career planning – career development, learning activities, and vocational counseling systems.
  • Occupational information – theories of occupational choice and vocational development.

Applicants must have at least one year of adult education counseling experience and complete NACI investigation.  training is required, along with working knowledge of computer operations and use of online education systems. Familiarity with Army and Veteran’s education benefits and ongoing changes to those benefits is required.
