Adjunct Faculty
- Graphic and Media Design

Virginia Peninsula Community College, a two‑year institution serving the Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg areas, is seeking faculty to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer semester. Courses may be taught on the Hampton or Historic Triangle campuses, at other off‑site centers, or online (asynchronous or synchronous) in day, evening, or weekend sessions.

Essential functions:

  • Design and deliver instruction for day, evening, or weekend classes.
  • Assess and grade students’ work.
  • Maintain an adequate on‑campus presence as required.
  • Communicate promptly with students, staff, and college administrators.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of a governor‑declared emergency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester credits in Graphic and Media Design or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated passion for Graphic and Media Design and belief that students from diverse backgrounds—including adult learners—can succeed in this discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interactions with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe suite of design and editing programs.
  • Ability to teach Type Design, Layout Design, and Web Design.
  • Willingness to adopt and adapt organized instructional plans to meet diverse student needs.
  • Planning and organization of instruction to maximize documented student learning.
  • Accurate record‑keeping of student attendance and progress, and submission of documentation and final grade rosters to the division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Ability to work at all campus locations.

Additional Considerations:

  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching online, hybrid, and traditional face‑to‑face modalities.
  • Proficiency and experience with instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) and the ability to use technology to enhance teaching.
  • Ability to measure, assess, and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
