Part-Time Faculty – Human Anatomy (Cadaveric Dissection) and Neuroscience I and II Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Hampton University Faculty Position Summary

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Hampton University invites applications for a part-time faculty position in anatomy and neuroscience with primary responsibility for classroom instruction, cadaver-based laboratory instruction and management, and neuroscience series. The successful applicant will teach first and second year doctoral students. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, hands‑on anatomical and neuroscience education while ensuring safe, ethical, and efficient operation of the anatomy laboratory.

The successful candidate will integrate anatomical science, neuroscience, with clinical applications relevant to physical therapist practice.

Primary Responsibilities Instruction & Teaching
  • Teach human anatomy (Fall semester) with emphasis on cadaver dissection and/or prosection.
  • Lead and supervise cadaver laboratory sessions, ensuring safe and respectful handling of human donors.
  • Integrate clinical correlations relevant to physical therapy practice, including musculoskeletal and neuroanatomy.
  • Collaborate with faculty to align anatomy instruction with DPT curriculum and CAPTE standards.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Teach Neuroscience I and II during Fall and Spring semesters.
Cadaver Lab Management & Operations
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the anatomy laboratory.
  • Ensure compliance with all biosafety, OSHA, and institutional protocols related to cadaver use.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment.
  • Coordinate cadaver acquisition, tracking, and disposition in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Monitor and maintain proper storage conditions (e.g., refrigeration, ventilation systems).
  • Train students in lab safety procedures and professional conduct.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management
  • Order, manage, and maintain inventory of anatomy lab supplies, including dissection instruments, personal protective equipment (PPE), preservation chemicals and solutions, cleaning and sanitation materials.
  • Track usage and ensure cost‑effective procurement aligned with program budget.
  • Coordinate with vendors and institutional purchasing offices.
  • Maintain records of supplies, safety data sheets (SDS), and compliance documentation.
Program Support
  • Participate in course planning, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Support interprofessional education (IPE) activities where appropriate.
  • Contribute to a learning environment that supports excellence in instruction and student outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DPT, MD, or equivalent) in anatomy or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in human gross anatomy with cadaver dissection experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in anatomy and/or neuroscience at the graduate or professional level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in a DPT or health professions program.
  • Experience managing or supporting a cadaver laboratory.
  • Knowledge of lab safety regulations, OSHA standards, and anatomical donation programs.
  • Experience with inventory management and laboratory operations.
  • Familiarity with clinical application of anatomy in physical therapy.
Work Schedule
  • Flexible; aligned with anatomy and neuroscience course schedules.
  • Requires in‑person presence for laboratory instruction and lab‑management duties.
