Admission Counselor
The Admission Counselor is responsible for recruiting and advising prospective students while advancing Hampton University's enrollment goals. As a representative of the University, this position builds relationships with prospective students, families, school counselors, and community partners through recruitment events, campus visits, and outreach initiatives.
Examples of duties include:
- Recruit prospective students by meeting with students, parents, school counselors, and community partners to promote the academic programs, opportunities, and strengths of Hampton University.
- Review admission applications and make recommendations to the Dean and Director of Admission based on applicants' credentials and alignment with the University's admission standards, mission, and goals.
- Conduct engaging presentations to prospective students and families during campus visits throughout the recruitment cycle.
- Coordinate and support campus visitation programs, including daily campus tours, open houses, special visitation events, and other recruitment activities.
- Provide virtual and in-person admission counseling to prospective students and families regarding the admission process, scholarships, and student life.
- Review and process on-site admission applications for prospective students who meet established admission requirements.
- Maintain proficiency in University systems, including Banner and Slate CRM, through required training and ongoing professional development.
- Assist with recruitment initiatives, and the overall operations of the Office of Admission.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Typical qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- Experience using CRM systems, such as Slate, and student information systems, such as Banner, is preferred.
- Experience working in a college/university Admission Office is highly preferred.
Supplemental information includes:
- Ability to travel extensively, work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Valid driver's license.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology to support the recruitment of prospective students.
