The purpose of the Fire and EMS Lab Instructor Advanced Life Support Paramedic position is to instruct and guide fire and emergency medical services Advanced Life Support and Paramedic students and firefighter students through the psychomotor skills introduction, acquisition, reinforcement, mastery and evaluation stages in fire and emergency medical services education programs; provide simulation activities, tutoring, and remedial assistance to students, provide feedback to program faculty regarding skill acquisition and mastery, as well as to provide instructional resources required to meet state-mandated instructor-to-student ratios for fire and EMS program lab/practical skills and simulation.
The Fire and EMS Lab Instructor Advanced Life Support Paramedic is also responsible for maintaining, inventorying, and replacing/resetting assigned equipment and lab/classroom spaces; the Fire and EMS Lab Instructor Advanced Life Support Paramedic, as designated by the department/program head/chair, may serve as a lead lab instructor/mentor to help guide and orient new lab instructors to the College, division and department/programs, policies, procedures, and expectations and perform other duties as assigned.
Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications- Current unrestricted certification as a Paramedic (National Registry and/or Virginia Certification).
- Knowledge of fire and emergency medical services (essential life support), education standards, and scope of practice.
- Knowledge of and experience with competency-based educational techniques.
- Knowledge of standardized patient concepts, processes, and practices.
- Knowledge of curricula and accreditation standards
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Instruct students through psychomotor skill introduction, acquisition, and evaluation of psychomotor skills performance and provide simulation activities, tutoring, and remedial assistance.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse educational environment.
- Work at all campus and off-campus locations.
- Work in adverse environmental conditions.
- Work in IDLH (immediately dangerous to life and health) atmospheres and situations.
