Assistant Engineer Residing VA or Hampton Roads
Iteris is seeking an Assistant Engineer - Traffic Operations to perform a variety of technical activities in support of traffic operations and data collection projects. The position will assist with the analysis, assessment, and interpretation of data, conditions, and systems to plan and execute traffic signal retiming improvements. The position will also require regular coordination with public agencies and consultants.
The role is remote within the state of Virginia, but requires extensive travel to the Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads areas (over 50% of the time).
What you will be doing:- Follow standard practice and procedures.
- Assist with collecting, analyzing, assessing, and interpreting data, conditions, and systems to plan and execute traffic signal retiming projects, covering the data collection phase through the project reporting phase.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving arterial traffic flow and safety, prepare system performance measurement tools, standard operating policies/procedures, deficiency reports, and mitigation plans; coordinate with local agencies on the operation and maintenance of traffic signals and arterial systems.
- Provide technical support for TSM&O performance monitoring platforms.
- Respond effectively to concerns related to traffic signal operations.
- Prepare correspondence and technical reports.
- Conduct extensive local travel to perform field work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (equivalent experience will be considered).
- Engineers In Training (EIT) license required.
- Ability to work independently with a passion for traffic engineering and operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Willingness to work in the field in Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach.
Iteris anticipates paying between $71,100 and $79,200 for this role. Actual pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
