Job OverviewCrucial member of the project core team and acts as a voice of the customer for quality related topics within the LEANPD / New Product Development process.
Responsible for the quality of the project launch as well as the quality tasks of the project, including the entire project from the initial design through production release and customer PPAP approval (G5), at which point when the quality responsibilities are transferred from advanced quality to manufacturing quality (Factory Quality).
Task Summary and Responsibilities- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
- Evaluate together with core team members the customer requirements, compliance requirements and internal requirements and support clarification of imprecise requirements to achieve clear product specifications.
- Secure that the defined development process is being followed including checklist applied, project reviews held, risk analyses conducted and escalates to manager as needed.
- Ensure that each task within the project is done correctly and with the quality required for a successful launch of the project.
- Ensure quality planning, documentation, and customer submissions comply with ITAR and export control requirements.
- Support the design and drawing review meetings to achieve the quality standard, structure, and content.
- Make sure the product and design validation is planned and executed successfully prior to Start of Production (SOP).
- Support the project until it is mature enough to be transferred to Manufacturing Quality teams.
- Collect, register, support and evaluate any variations from customer requirements during LEANPD projects. The AQE is the 8D problem‑solving team leader for issues during product development.
- Support but do not own the FMEA. Act as FMEA moderator and quality authority, ensuring robustness and risk adequacy to achieve the quality standard, structure, and content.
- Lead and coordinate Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and complete per LEANPD requirements.
- Control Plan owner and lead Control Plan meetings including assigning actions and ensuring they are completed.
- Support and promote product standardization as well as updates to the design standards.
- Responsible for driving the “Lessons Learned” process and “Read Across” of lessons during project start and project development and in case of customer complaints during project phase to avoid recurrence for new developments.
- Drive monitoring and improvement of development process KPIs and implementation of process improvements.
- Support the implementation and training of quality standards and improvements to existing development processes and sub‑processes in engineering departments.
- Collaborate by introducing and training quality and engineering related software packages, quality procedures and systems.
- Host and lead audits as part of a LEANPD project.
- Collect and check the quality and content of the customer production approval documentation and be responsible for any submission to customer, as well as gaining customer approval.
- Audit APQP documents such as DFMEA, PFMEA, process flowchart and production control plan and ensure responsible parties effectively close their findings.
- Support improvement of existing APQP system by giving feedback and input to process owners.
- Promote quality culture by supervising and consulting on methods and tools such as 8D training, root cause analysis, risk management, variant comparison.
- Represent the company to the customer in quality‑related tasks during the LEANPD project.
- Review LEANPD deliverables in advance of Project Approval Committee (PAC) to make sure projects are ready to be presented on PAC meetings, escalating to management if deliverables are not satisfactorily met.
- B.S. degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, with significant involvement in NPI/APQP activities for regulated products.
