Mechanisms Subject Matter Expert (SME) Engineer

Location:

Hampton, VA

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000 (reflective of education and experience)

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) seeks a Mechanisms SME Engineer with expertise in polymer chemistry and its applications to spaceflight mechanisms. The role involves design, testing, and qualification of aerospace mechanism systems, including the development of test plans and reports.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and review mechanism qualification and acceptance test plans and reports.
  • Support laboratory testing of structural concepts, perform mechanical testing of components, and conduct robotic assembly of structures as required.
  • Design and size CAD components for mechanism systems used on spaceflight hardware.
  • Generate reports, presentations, and documentation.
  • Provide clear comments and guidance for qualification and acceptance plans and reports.
  • Attend meetings and teleconferences to discuss design and qualification issues.
  • Define the load environment for mechanism systems.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineer – Bachelor’s (or equivalent) with 2–4 years of experience or Master’s with 0–2 years of experience in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering.
  • Senior Mechanical Engineer – Bachelor’s (or equivalent) with 5–7 years of experience or Master’s with 3–5 years of experience in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of mechanism acceptance standards for spaceflight applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in CAD design and sizing of components for mechanism systems.
  • Experience with Creo/ProE preferred.
  • Ability to travel to testing sites as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
