Job Overview

Student Accounts Specialist and contribute to providing outstanding financial support and customer service to our students and staff at Virginia Peninsula Community College. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate student account records, processing revenue and receivable transactions, and ensuring compliance with state and college policies.

Ideal Candidate
  • Extensive experience in accounts receivable, financial support, or customer service within higher education, government, or nonprofit settings.
  • Strong knowledge of student financial aid processes, GAAP, fund accounting, and state fiscal policies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SIS, WES, AIS, and other financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and external partners.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Experience with processing payments, refunds, reconciliations, and financial aid transactions.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively across multiple campus locations and prioritize competing tasks.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responding promptly and professionally to inquiries from students, staff, and external agencies.
  • Managing student accounts, processing payments, refunds, and waivers.
  • Reconciling deposits, preparing bank deposits, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Processing third-party billing, collections, and contractual invoices.
  • Supporting financial aid disbursements, refunds, and reconciliations.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, including FATCA, FERPA, and the Virginia Unclaimed Property Program.
  • Collaborating with departments on contracts, waivers, and special projects.
