Position: Deputy III Supervisor- State Income and Tax Relief Department

Function

The City of Hampton is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced professional to serve as a Deputy III – Supervisor in the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue
. This leadership role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by overseeing complex assessment functions and supervising a dedicated team responsible for personal property and business tax operations. Working under general supervision, the successful candidate will exercise independent judgment in developing work methods and procedures, while providing critical support to the Commissioner of the Revenue and senior staff. Minimum Requirements
  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in accounting or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of full-time equivalent experience with clerical/technical accounting functions, including record and document control functions
  • A minimum of three years of full-time equivalent experience in customer relations, including direct customer contact, problem identification, and resolution, is required.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time equivalent supervisory experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Must successfully complete a background check related to this position before any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • May require working non-standard hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergencies or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
