Position: EMERGENCY VEHICLE DISPATCHER with Security Clearance
Duties
* Provide emergency 911-call taking and communication services while serving as primary call taker for certified Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Enhanced 911 system.
* Determine the nature of the emergency by caller interrogation and prioritizes all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls.
* Verify the location and call back number for a medical patient and determine the severity of the emergency situation using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) checklists, in accordance with national standards.
* Operate and maintain telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other devices installed in the dispatch center for the base fire alarm system and the Enhanced 911 system.
* Operate computer based Hazardous Materials databases to provide field units with accurate information during emergencies. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Must be able to obtain and maintain secret security clearance
* Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid
* Incumbent must obtain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Certification as a Telecormnunicator, Level II within 1 year of being hired
* This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
* This is a designated drug testing position. Incumbent may be subject to random testing for drug use
* Incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including weekends and holidays)
* Incumbent may be required to respond on off-duty time during a conflagration or stay over until an emergency has been terminated or until properly relieved by a qualified dispatcher.

* Incumbent is required to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure and report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled work time.

* Works in close harmony with supervisor, co-workers, and others during day-to-day routines and during emergencies.
* 120-Day Register:
This announcement may result in a 120-day register that may be used to fill like vacancies for 120 days after the closing date. Applicants may be referred for consideration as vacancies occur.
* Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
* Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
* Must participate in exercises by relaying accurate information. Must be resourceful and alert to adequately perform duties
* Incumbent must be able to distinguish basic colors, and be able to hear (hearing aid permitted). Requires H-1 profile for entry; must maintain an H-2 profile each year

EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes operating communications equipment, alarm equipment and systems and the radio usage and procedures;

performing vehicle dispatching such as Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) system; and knowledge of fire protection and prevention theories, techniques and practices relative to various types of emergencies, hazardous material situations and medical emergencies. SKILLS AND ABILITIES

(KSAs):
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of communications operations in order to effectively gather information and prepare reports and statistical data accurately and quickly.
2. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval, and input of data.
3. Knowledge of emergency response rules, procedures and operations to resolve a wide range of problems to include location and availability of emergency apparatus, and the type of equipment needed for an emergency.
