This class develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of violence prevention programs and policies. Incumbent will be assigned to the Comprehensive Violence Reduction programs that have been developed to work across disciplines in a multidisciplinary effort. This position works in partnership with the community to reduce violence in targeted areas in the City of Hampton. This work will engage those who are most at risk and those who are actively participating in violent activities.

Acts as a resource to service providers. Performs duties under the general supervision of the Neighborhood Project Manager. This position supervises the work of others.

Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Human Services, Psychology or a closely related field of study.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in family and community engagement and violence reduction which includes the supervision of others.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • May be required to possess a driver’s license and satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
Additional Requirements
  • Requires regular community outreach to share information about services and programs as well as establish community partners.
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • May require "on-call" status, during which time incumbent is required to respond at any time of the day or night to emergencies.
  • May require working non-standard hours including evenings and weekends.
  • May require some local travel.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
