Position: On-Call / Floater Caregiver – Newport News / Hampton
Are you a dependable caregiver who enjoys variety and can step in when clients need extra support?

Seniors Helping Seniors Hampton Roads is looking for a compassionate and flexible On-Call/Floater Caregiver to support clients across Newport News, Hampton, and surrounding areas.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working with different clients, schedules, and care needs and is willing to step in for open shifts, caregiver call-outs, emergencies, vacations, and temporary coverage.

You may work with one client one day and a different client the next—so we're looking for someone who can quickly adapt while providing the same level of patience, respect, and dependable care every time.

What You'll DoAs a Floater Caregiver, you may be asked to provide:

Companionship and socialization through conversation, activities, and meaningful interaction

Personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility assistance

Support for seniors living with Alzheimer's, dementia, and memory-related conditions

Meal preparation and grocery shopping, including preparing meals according to dietary needs

Medication reminders and assistance with staying on schedule

Light housekeeping, including laundry, linens, dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming

Transportation to medical appointments, errands, outings, and social activities

Running errands and helping with everyday tasks

Safety and fall-prevention support around the home

Pet care when appropriate and available

Respite and supportive care for families who need an extra helping hand Services and assignments will vary depending on the individual client's needs.

- You don't need the same client or schedule every day to provide excellent care.

What Makes a Great Floater?

We're looking for someone who can walk into an unfamiliar home and make the client feel comfortable.

You should be able to quickly ask: "What does a good day look like for you?"Then listen, learn the client's routine, and provide support without taking away their independence.

Because you'll work with multiple clients, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and adaptability are just as important as caregiving skills.

Requirements Previous caregiving experience preferred; training may be available for qualified candidates

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work with different clients and care needs

Reliable transportation when transportation is required for an assignment

Valid driver's license and auto insurance when applicable

Weekend, evening, overnight, or short-notice availability is a plus

Must meet applicable Virginia requirements, including DMV check and drug screening

On-Call Availability As a floater, your availability may include:

Same-day or short-notice coverage

Caregiver call-outs Vacation coverage

Temporary assignments

Open shifts

Weekend and evening coverage

Overnight shifts when available

Multiple client assignments throughout the week

The more flexible your availability, the more opportunities you'll have to pick up shifts.
