As an Equipment Operator V in Drainage Maintenance you will operate one or more types of specialized, complex heavy‑duty motorized and automotive equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s public works infrastructure. You will be expected to repair and replace storm water pipes, clean out half pipe, haul construction material, maintain right of ways, heavy ditch maintenance and repair, and prevent/mitigate property damage and mosquito breeding by eliminating storm water blockages during pre and post storm inspections.

• High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
• Five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience with high-level proficiency in equipment operation or closely related experience.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
• This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
• Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or a valid driver’s license and obtain a State of Virginia CDL Class A within 180 days of employment.
• Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
