The Lead Floor Care Technician will be responsible for supporting the cleanliness, safety, and daily operations of the facility while guiding and mentoring fellow custodial team members.
What You’ll Do- Clean and care for floors like tile, vinyl, carpet, and concrete using the right tools and methods. This includes sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.
- Use and take care of machines like buffers, auto‑scrubbers, burnishers, and carpet cleaners.
- Set a good example by showing safe, professional, and high‑quality work every day.
- Help your team by answering questions, solving problems, and giving friendly guidance during shifts.
- Help train new and current staff on how to clean floors, use equipment, and stay safe.
- Keep the team motivated by staying positive, encouraging others, and recognizing great work.
- Work with your supervisor to plan tasks, report broken equipment, and make sure supplies are stocked.
- Complete daily cleaning jobs and bigger floor care projects, either on your own or with a team.
- Follow safety rules, wear protective gear, and keep floors clean and free of spills or hazards.
- Talk clearly and respectfully with coworkers and supervisors to help keep everything running smoothly.
- Start your shift by reviewing the day’s schedule and checking in with your team.
- Gather supplies and equipment, making sure everything is ready and in working order.
- Walk through assigned areas to assess floor conditions and plan tasks for yourself and the team.
- Offer guidance to team members, especially those still learning the ropes.
- Motivate the team with a positive attitude, encouragement, and hands‑on support.
- Monitor progress throughout the shift, stepping in to assist or coach as needed.
- Communicate with supervisors about supply needs, equipment issues, or project updates.
- Wrap up by cleaning equipment, storing supplies, and reviewing the day’s work with the team.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in floor care, and janitorial services.
- Solid understanding with floor care machines and cleaning techniques.
- Ability to guide and support others.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in your work.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Willingness to train others and share best practices.
- Positive attitude and team spirit.
- Help adults with disabilities gain confidence, learn new skills, and take pride in their work.

- Frequent standing, walking, and bending throughout the shift.
- Lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs (trash bags, equipment, supply boxes).
- Pushing and pulling heavy items like carts, vacuums, or floor machines.
- Repeating the same movements—mopping, scrubbing, wiping, etc.
- Climbing ladders or stairs to reach high places or change light bulbs.
- Kneeling or crouching to clean low or hard‑to‑reach spots.
- Using your hands to handle tools, keys, or small repair tasks.
- Working around cleaning chemicals (with proper safety gear and fresh air).
- Being in hot, cold, or stuffy areas, depending on the part of the building.
- Hearing loud sounds from vacuums or floor machines.
- Watching your step on wet or slippery floors—sturdy shoes are a must.
- Dealing with dust, smells, or biohazards in places like restrooms or medical rooms.
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions (snow removal, sweeping walkways).
- Working alone or in isolated areas, sometimes during off‑hours.
