The City of Hampton is seeking a Records Manager to oversee the operation of the City of Hampton’s Central Records Unit. This candidate will assign duties to personnel assigned to the Central Records Unit, monitor personnel performance; supervises and coordinate other specialized duties in the operation of the City of Hampton's Central Records Unit. This position includes the supervision of the Information Center which operates on a 24 hours basis.
Minimum Requirements- Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED;
Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Library Sciences, Public Administration, or related field is preferred. The equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Supervisory experience required. - Must possess or be able to attain a VCIN Level
A. Successfully complete a General Instructor’s Certification, when available. Equivalent instructor training or certifications will be considered. - Experience administering database or local area networks preferred.
- Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices is required.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of personal and network computers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, supervision, and citizens. This includes the ability to give clear, concise feedback, and ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships.
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule and assign work to others to provide appropriate training methods, staffing and efficient service delivery.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
- Ability to foster effective public relations and work effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to investigate and respond to customer concerns.
- Must successfully pass a police background investigation to include a polygraph examination prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- This position may require working after regular business hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on as needed basis.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
