Make a splash with the City of Hampton! We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Aquatics Manager to lead operations at the Hampton Aquaplex. In this role, you’ll supervise, coordinate, and organize a variety of aquatic programs while managing competitive swimming, recreation, and other aquatic activities. You will be committed to safety, exceptional customer service, and creating outstanding aquatic experiences for the community.
The purpose of the position is to perform supervisory and recreational work in coordinating, supervising, organizing and managing competitive swimming, aquatics programming, recreational aquatic activities, staff training and community events at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.

Minimum Requirements- Completion of a standard high school course of study or GED. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Leisure Services, Outdoor Education, or a related field of study preferred.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience planning and directing community aquatic facilities, including a minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising the work of others.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Thorough knowledge of aquatics safety principles and practices, life savers techniques, pool operations, and aquatic recreation programming is required.
- Requires considerable knowledge of fiscal concepts necessary for the formulation and implementation of the aquatics budget, grant acquisitions, and other related matters.
- Experience in a municipal government setting is preferred.
- Must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- May require working beyond a 40-hour workweek to include nights, weekends, holidays and on-call emergency standby.
- Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Must have the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply laws, regulations, and procedures relating to Parks and Recreation.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
