- Support the plant on day-to-day projects related to process improvement, tooling, and equipment evaluation.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
- Participate in 5S and lean manufacturing initiatives on the production floor.
- Help develop and document standardized work instructions and process flows.
- Assist with Capital Expenditure project tracking, including scheduling, data gathering, and reporting.
- Apply CAD software skills to assist with design modifications or tooling layouts.
- Prepare presentations and reports summarizing project findings and recommendations.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering, or a related field. (Virginia Tech students are encouraged to apply!)
- Completed at least one year of coursework in an engineering program preferred.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required.
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles and manufacturing concepts.
- Proficiency or coursework experience with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking production areas, and wearing required PPE.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a team environment.
- Practical, resume-building experience in a real heavy‑manufacturing environment.
- Mentorship from experienced plant leadership.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing, capital project management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
