Tool Room and Tool Preset Specialist

Position Summary
The Tool Room and Tool Preset Specialist supports machining, fabrication, blast and coat, and inspection operations by maintaining the availability, condition, and accurate control of tooling, gauges, personal protective equipment, supplies, and consumables. The role requires working knowledge of CNC tooling, calibrated thread gauges, tool holders and extensions, milling and turning tools, standard and inserted drills, pneumatic tools, and related industrial supplies.
This position maintains an organized and responsive Machine Shop Tool Room and tool preset area with an ownership and service mindset. The specialist evaluates used tooling for wear and reuse, prepares modular CNC tooling in advance of production demand, coordinates tooling and supply needs, and helps prevent shop-floor downtime caused by unavailable or unserviceable equipment.
- Maintain an organized, adequately stocked, and service-ready Machine Shop Tool Room and tool preset area based on usage and operational demand
- Issue, receive, track, and account for calibrated tooling, general-use tooling, preset tooling, consumables, and personal protective equipment
- Evaluate used tooling for wear, serviceability, and appropriate reuse, repair, removal from service, or replacement
- Build modular CNC tools, including heads, inserts, extensions, CAT 50 and HSK holders, using defined torque values and appropriate retention knobs
- Perform tool preassembly and length setting according to CNC manuscript requirements and in advance of shop-floor demand
- Coordinate OEM-recommended maintenance and minor repair of pneumatic tooling, including outsourcing repairs when appropriate in coordination with Maintenance
- Prepare and issue requests for quotation to suppliers and vendors and serve as a liaison among shop requisitioners, suppliers, Purchasing, and other internal stakeholders
- Coordinate shop supply, general consumable, and personal protective equipment inventory with the appropriate Shop Managers and the Production and Facilities Manager to support budgetary controls
- Arrange third-party calibration services and coordinate tooling distribution, collection, repair, disposition, and replacement with the Quality Assurance department
- Maintain compliance with established calibration cycles, recalls, and quality requirements for calibrated tooling and gauges
- Support Estimating and Planning with pricing and lead-time research for specialized tools and gauges used in proposals and acquisition strategies
- Support Shop Planners after job order receipt by confirming that tooling and gauge availability aligns with production schedules
- Coordinate with Maintenance and the Safety Coordinator to support clean and orderly hazardous-waste, air-compression, and flammable-storage areas
- Maintain current records for equipment sent off site for repair and for shop vacuums and maintenance-related consumables purchased or in use
- Monitor seasonal consumables, oil-absorption supplies, and other maintenance-related materials to support replenishment before shortages occur
- Maintain Tool Room coverage during working hours and communicate anticipated gaps to the Machine Shop Manager so substitute coverage can be arranged
- Support future-state improvements, including establishment of the preset tool room, electronic tool tracking, and vending-based distribution
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Experience with industrial tooling used in machining, fabrication, blast and coat, or inspection operations
