DescriptionThe Director of Sports Marketing and Fan Engagement is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing, promotional, fan‑engagement, and game‑presentation strategies that advance Hampton University Athletics and enhance the Hampton Pirates brand. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Fan Engagement, Sports Marketing and Promotions, this position leads initiatives designed to increase attendance, strengthen the student and community connection to Hampton Athletics, support ticket‑revenue objectives, elevate the game‑day experience, and create meaningful engagement opportunities for alumni, supporters, sponsors, and prospective fans.
All responsibilities must be performed in accordance with university policies, Coastal Athletic Association, NCAA, and other applicable rules and regulations.
- Develop and implement marketing, promotion, and fan‑engagement plans that advance attendance, ticket revenue, brand awareness, and fan development.
- Serve as the primary marketing and game‑presentation contact for men’s basketball and other assigned sports.
- Plan and execute game‑day promotions, activations, entertainment, recognition opportunities, scripts, timing sheets, and evaluations.
- Work with Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing to develop strategy to reach attendance and other fan development goals.
- Communicate regularly with members for all other external units and coaching staffs to maximize collaboration.
- Partner with Ticketing and external‑relations staff on season‑ticket, group‑sales, student‑attendance, and revenue‑generation initiatives.
- Lead student‑engagement efforts and oversee Hampton Pirates Kids Club programming.
- Coordinate integrated digital, social, email, print, campus, and community marketing campaigns.
- Manage approved community outreach, including mascot appearances, donation requests, youth programs, and partnerships.
- Support sponsorship fulfillment, donor and alumni engagement, and special‑event experiences.
- Supervise assigned graduate assistants, interns, and student marketing staff.
- Manage assigned budgets, marketing inventories, production schedules, and promotional calendars.
- Track attendance, ticketing, and campaign results to improve future marketing and fan‑experience efforts.
- Maintain compliance with University, NCAA, conference, licensing, and applicable legal requirements.
- Represent Hampton University Athletics in accordance with its core values.
- Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and non‑traditional hours as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in sport administration, business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience in NCAA Division I collegiate athletics.
- Experience with ticketing, customer relationship management, email‑marketing, and fan‑engagement platforms.
- Experience developing paid and organic digital marketing campaigns and measuring campaign performance.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro, or comparable graphic design and video‑editing tools.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing graduate assistants, interns, and student employees.
- Experience working with corporate sponsors, managing fulfillment, and developing in‑game or event activation concepts.
- Demonstrated creativity, initiative, innovation, and the ability to translate strategic goals into effective fan‑facing experiences.
Valid Driver’s License, Knowledge of Marketing operations, strong management skills
