About the Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Impact & Strategic Innovation, the Youth Services Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and facilitating programs, services, and initiatives that support the safety, well‑being, empowerment, and healthy development of children and youth participating in YWCA South Hampton Roads programs.

The Youth Services Coordinator serves as the primary lead for youth engagement, enrichment programming, prevention education, family support, and community partnerships related to children and youth. This position works collaboratively with case managers, residential staff, volunteers, schools, and community partners to ensure youth have access to meaningful opportunities, supportive resources, and positive developmental experiences.

Through direct engagement, program coordination, advocacy, and relationship‑building, the Youth Services Coordinator advances YWCA South Hampton Roads' mission by creating environments where children and youth feel safe, supported, connected, and empowered to thrive.

Essential Duties

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Administration
  • Conduct assessments of youth needs, strengths, interests, and barriers to identify appropriate services, supports, and opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, documentation, referrals, and program data in accordance with agency policies and funding requirements.
  • Participate in case staffing meetings, program meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions to support coordinated service delivery.
  • Monitor youth participation, engagement, and progress within YWCA programs and initiatives.
  • Provide recommendations and resources to support the social, emotional, educational, and developmental needs of youth.
  • Assist with crisis response and stabilization efforts involving children and youth as needed.
  • Develop and maintain resource directories and referral networks that support youth and families.
  • Participate in agency trainings, professional development opportunities, and continuous improvement efforts.
Community Collaboration
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, youth-serving organizations, community agencies, faith communities, local businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent YWCA South Hampton Roads at community meetings, coalitions, networking events, and outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify opportunities that enhance services and supports for children, youth, and families.
  • Increase awareness of YWCA youth programs through presentations, outreach activities, and community engagement efforts.
  • Foster partnerships that expand access to educational, recreational, leadership, mentoring, and wellness opportunities for youth.
  • Support efforts to strengthen family engagement and community connection across YWCA programs.
  • Track partnership development, outreach efforts, and community engagement outcomes.
Youth Development and Programming
  • Design, implement, facilitate, and evaluate youth-centered programs that promote safety, well‑being, leadership, education, and personal growth.
  • Coordinate age‑appropriate enrichment activities that support social‑emotional learning, life skills development, academic success, and healthy relationships.
  • Facilitate individual and group activities for youth utilizing trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and strengths‑based practices.
  • Develop opportunities for youth leadership, civic engagement, advocacy, and community involvement.
  • Coordinate special events, workshops, educational opportunities, and seasonal programming for children and youth.
  • Support youth in identifying personal goals and accessing opportunities that encourage growth and self‑sufficiency.
  • Create welcoming and inclusive environments that promote belonging, empowerment, and positive youth development.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and utilize participant feedback to inform program improvements.
Program Development
  • Assess the needs of children, youth, and families to identify opportunities for new programs, services, and initiatives.
