English Language Learners (ELLs) Family Engagement Specialist
The English Language Learners (ELLs) Family Engagement Specialist assists ELL families with the HCS registration process as well as connecting families to community and school resources. Also:
Assists with all ELL Department registration, reviewing community resources, managing the clothing closet and food pantry, and assisting families with school registration documents Serves as the conduit to link families and schools to community-based organizations Develops events for ELL families to better understand school processes and procedures and how to support their students' academic journey
Creates and fosters community partnerships with faith-based organizations, businesses, and non-profit organizations that offer services to meet the needs of families Coordinates family events/workshops that support school goals and address key areas of focus Plans and organizes parent training sessions, workshops and family support services Connects families to resources through meetings and/or periodic home visits Works closely with identified families to ensure they receive continued support for their child's educational goals Informs families of community resources that could provide needed assistance Develops and runs the ELL Welcome and Resource Center Promotes parent and community volunteerism Creates flyers and other marketing materials to promote events and programs Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in education or related field required Experience working with families that have diverse cultures and economic backgrounds Strong communication and interpersonal skills Strong computer skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft applications and Google Excellent organization, planning, and human relation skills Must be familiar with the community and support agencies Must be adaptable to meet the needs of the families in the program in addition to working flexible hours to accommodate work in the evening Experience working in an educational, social service, or family support service setting Bilingual preferred in any language
