Location: Hampton, VA

About the Opportunity

A leading aviation and aerospace component manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality systems, drive continuous improvement, and serve as a key partner to operations and customers. This is a highly visible leadership role within a complex, regulated manufacturing environment supporting aerospace and industrial turbine markets.

This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing processes and high‑performance materials, influencing quality strategy across operations while mentoring and developing a high‑impact quality team.

Position Overview

The Quality Manager provides leadership over quality systems, audits, compliance, and process improvement initiatives to ensure operational excellence and customer satisfaction. This role partners cross‑functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Customers to embed disciplined quality practices, improve performance metrics, and foster a proactive quality culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems in compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, Nadcap
    , and customer requirements
  • Serve as the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) leader, driving root cause analysis and sustainable solutions
  • Own and lead internal and external audit programs
  • Act as the Customer Advocate / Voice of the Customer
    , managing customer interactions and quality requirements
  • Lead contract review and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities
  • Drive Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction and process improvement initiatives
  • Standardize quality metrics, best practices, and reporting across operations
  • Partner cross‑functionally to ensure effective communication and execution of quality initiatives
Leadership & Competencies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and influence across functions
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to objectively analyze issues and implement corrective actions
  • High ethical standards with the confidence to stand by sound quality decisions
  • Data‑driven mindset with experience using KPIs to drive continuous improvement
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop quality professionals while building succession plans
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 7 years leading a quality department or team
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • At least 5 years of auditing experience in an ISO 9001 / AS9100 environment
  • Strong knowledge of statistical tools, NDE, MSA, and quality methodologies
  • Ability to work in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment

Preferred

  • Master's degree
  • ASQ certifications (CMQ/OE, CQE)
  • RAB Lead Auditor or Aerospace Auditor experience
