Job Title

Backhoe Operator - Asphalt Milling

Department: Hampton Roads

Reports to: Paving Supervisor

Major Role and Purpose

Safety operator a Backhoemachine to dig, lift and move materials in asphalt milling operations to prepare for pavement preparation - resurfacing highways, roadways, parking lots, etc.

Description of Duties
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Operator a backhoe to prepare and support road and pavement projects.
  • Work alongside milling machines to remove asphalt and prepare surfaces for paving.
  • Support asphalt milling crews by preparing and cleaning work areas and moving debris.
  • Operator other pieces of heavy equipment such as skid steers and brooms as needed.
  • Combines excavation and paving support roles.
  • Overtime work is required.
  • Must be able to work a day shift or night shift depending on the operational needs.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned by supervisor.
Education
  • High School Diploma / GED.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Backhoe Operator preferred.
Skills Required
  • Effective communication and organization skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to work safety in various conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Physical Demands
  • Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
  • Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
