Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Hampton, Virginia.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: $35.00 per hour
  • Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, Weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    First Shift 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or Technical Certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
  • Basic tools required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines:
    • Routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake and tire work
    • Diagnostics and repairs including AC, electrical systems
    • Advanced skilled level repairs including major engine repairs, diesel after-treatment or fuel injection repairs (required)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • All other certifications required by location (required)
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform all T3 tasks
  • Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be available for shift work, weekends, and on-call duty as required
  • Prefer ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, Electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
  • Proficient in operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
  • Minimum tool requirement
  • Road test vehicles as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/influence others
  • Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background/Motor vehicle check
Responsibilities
  • Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days
  • Complete instructor-led OEM courses as required
  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including:
    • Standard maintenance
    • Preventive maintenance
    • Complex repairs with minimal support
  • Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, using diagnostic computers/software
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint when assigned
  • Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
  • Coach/mentor other level technicians
  • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
  • Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation
  • Work in accordance with federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Other support duties as required (e.g., service island support)
