Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Hampton, Virginia.

- Hourly Pay: $35.00 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained up to $700
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, Weekends OFF - Hours:
First Shift 8:00 am – 4:30 pm - Annual Merit Pay Increases every year

- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Vocational or Technical Certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines:
- Routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake and tire work
- Diagnostics and repairs including AC, electrical systems
- Advanced skilled level repairs including major engine repairs, diesel after-treatment or fuel injection repairs (required)
- Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- All other certifications required by location (required)
- Ability to perform all T3 tasks
- Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be available for shift work, weekends, and on-call duty as required
- Prefer ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, Electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
- Proficient in operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
- Minimum tool requirement
- Road test vehicles as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/influence others
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background/Motor vehicle check
- Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
220) - Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days
- Complete instructor-led OEM courses as required
- Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including:
- Standard maintenance
- Preventive maintenance
- Complex repairs with minimal support
- Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, using diagnostic computers/software
- Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint when assigned
- Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
- Coach/mentor other level technicians
- Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
- Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation
- Work in accordance with federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
- Other support duties as required (e.g., service island support)
