Diesel Mechanic

Position Description

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identifies root causes of basic failures and performs repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of a complaint once assigned a task
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation
• Works in compliance with safety, DOT, MOT and other regulations
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification or post-secondary degree preferred
• Basic tools required
• Experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two or more years of classroom training and/or work experience in the field preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Must pass Ryder drug test, a DOT physical, a Ryder road test, and a Ryder background and motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from the last 3 years)
