Trades Utilities Mechanic

The Department of Motor Vehicles (Dmv) is seeking a Trades Utilities Mechanic in our Hampton, Va location. The Trades Utilities Mechanic reports directly to the Superintendent of the Field, and in their absence, the Deputy Director of Maintenance and Operations. This position oversees facility maintenance and repairs for their assigned district. The role is responsible for ensuring that all Dmv facilities within the district remain fully functional, safe, and compliant with state and federal regulations.
This includes managing and performing repairs across Hvac, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other essential building systems. Additionally, the position supports emergency preparedness, coordinates with external vendors for specialized maintenance needs, and upholds Dmv and Osha safety standards to provide a secure, operational environment for employees and customers.
Minimum Qualifications
• Proficient in using mechanical tools, electronic testing devices, and computer systems for equipment testing, repair, and data analysis, ensuring that all equipment meets operational standards
• Knowledge of building operations, construction related and facility best practices
• Familiarity with the national building code and regulations, as well as compliance requirements at federal, state, and local levels
• Knowledge of Osha and risk management standards for facility maintenance and safety
• Skilled in coordinating and managing multiple projects, timelines, and maintaining compliance with safety and construction standards
• Ability to lift and carry up between 50 and 100 lbs., with the endurance to perform physically demanding tasks required for equipment maintenance and operations
• Experience in building repairs, Hvac, Plumbing & Sewer, Electrical, Carpentry and Painting
Additional Considerations
• Master Trades Certification in Plumbing, Electrical, and Hvac Fields
• Vca Certification
• Extensive experience in multiple construction trade disciplines
