Fleet Mechanic – Hampton Major Role and Purpose
Inspect, diagnose, and repair fleet vehicles to ensure vehicles are functioning properly and safely.
Description of Duties- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Assist in ensuring rules and guidelines are met for all vehicles and notify the supervisor when these guidelines are not being adhered to.
- Perform routine oil changes, filter swaps, and fluid checks.
- Use computer aided diagnostics tools to troubleshoot codes and failed parts.
- Repair or replace worn parts like brake pads, alternators, steering components, and suspension.
- Perform safety checks on vehicle lights, tires, seatbelts, and other performance parts critical to vehicle safety, passing inspections, and meeting the requirements of safety laws.
- Assist other technicians in the shop with repairs when needed.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with light duty truck and vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Able to diagnose and repair.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Experienced with diesel engines, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.
- Able to perform repairs in accordance with OSHA safety regulations.
- Valid driver's license with positive points.
- Virginia State Inspection License a plus but not required.
- Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
- Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
- Overtime work is required.
- Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
