As a Family Resource Specialist, you'll assess the needs of prenatal parents and families with children ages 0–3 using the Family Resilience and Opportunities for Growth (FROG) Scale. You’ll provide early intervention, promote home visiting services, and connect families with resources like Medicaid, WIC, and parenting programs. Your work will be critical in building trusting relationships and empowering families toward long-term stability.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct prenatal and early childhood assessments using standardized tools
- Provide short-term counseling and referrals to community resources
- Promote Healthy Families home visiting services and other supportive programs
- Document assessments and case details accurately in the data system
- Participate in regular team meetings, professional development, and supervision
- Maintain accurate electronic and manual records in line with program protocols
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, or a closely related field of study.
- Some customer service experience in the human services field.
- Experience in working with or providing services to children and families.
- Knowledge of infant and child development.
- Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing; enter information into a computer system with proficiency; work independently with little supervision while exercising good judgment; perform community outreach activities and home visitations; interact effectively with others/acceptance of individual differences; foster effective public relations and work with culturally diverse populations; prepare reports.
- Knowledge of computer operations
- Infant Mental Health Endorsement preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position before an offer of employment or promotion.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergencies, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
