Job Title: Laborer - Traffic Control
Department: Traffic Control
Reports to: Superintendent
Major Role and Purpose- Perform various traffic control tasks associated with heavy highway construction traffic control activities.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Receive daily instruction from project foreman and/or superintendent.
- Distribute traffic control signs and markers along designated pattern (lifting cones & barrels).
- Operate electronic message boards.
- Responsible for installing, setting in place, and repairing traffic signals, erecting signs or devices such as traffic islands and barriers.
- Operate pickup truck and TMA.
- Shoveling and raking of materials as required.
- Flagging for traffic.
- Must be able to work alternating day and night shifts.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
- High School Diploma preferred.
- Previous heavy highway traffic control experience.
- Traffic flagging experience. Current VDOT flagger certification a plus.
- Overtime work is required.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a positive driving record.
- Job requires motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, squatting.
- Walking or standing may occupy the entire day.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
- Overtime work is required.
