ResponsibilitiesLead a dedicated team responsible for installing and maintaining roadway signs, pavement markings, traffic barriers, and guardrails. Oversee day-to-day operations of semi-skilled staff, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards. If you have experience in thermoplastic pavement marking and traffic sign installation, you will directly impact roadway safety.
Minimum Requirements- Requires an Associate’s degree, or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college, in a directly related field of study.
- Requires Intermediate or Advanced Work Zone Certification
- ATSSA and/or IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Level II Certifications Preferred or experience to obtain within 1 year of employment.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time equivalent experience in thermoplastic pavement marking and traffic signing fabrication and installation.
- Ability to learn and utilize Lucity Work Order and Data Management System within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to perform basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, basic Excel skills and utilization of e-mail.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must possess a valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) OR a CDL instructional permit and obtain the CDL within 180 days of employment.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
