Job Title
Responsible for collaboratively planning, instructing and assessing students in a shared classroom. Effectively manage classroom behavior, facilitate small group work, provide feedback to students and the co-teacher, communicate with parents and colleagues to create a supportive learning environment.
Educational QualificationsValid Michigan teaching certificate with a credential in English Language Arts or Reading Bachelor's degree including all courses to meet credential requirements
Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesDelivers Michigan Academic Standards as identified by the State of Michigan and the District to help students meet and or exceed minimum content area proficiency standards Develops and administers elementary school curriculum according to Hamtramck Public Schools' goals and objectives. Fosters a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Develops lesson plans/instructional materials with co-teacher and incorporates them into learning experiences Clearly communicates both content and language objectives to students.
Uses the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) strategies that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students. Employs a variety of research based instructional strategies and instructional media consistent with the capabilities, needs, and physical limitations of students. Differentiates instruction for students based upon need and works with students and other teachers in inclusive settings. Steers individual and small group instruction, as needed.
Conducts appropriate assessments and maintains accurate data on students in areas of attendance, grades, MTSS, ELD and IEP progress, if applicable. Administers standardized/local tests in accordance with Hamtramck Public Schools and MDE testing programs. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/guardians. Facilitates Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Participates in professional development and Professional Learning Communities. Performs other duties as assigned.
