ML Classroom Teacher
The ML classroom teacher provides specialized instruction for the purpose of developing the students' ability to effectively perform and acquire the English Language.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Creating a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture.
- Developing lesson plans and instructional materials and providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Translating lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Exhibiting an understanding of literacy development and essential practices of literacy for elementary students and articulating and utilizing research based instructional strategies and methods appropriate for various grade levels.
- Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluating students' academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing report cards and other necessary documentation to report student growth and achievement.
- Maintaining student classroom records using current district technology and expectations.
- Communicating regularly with parents through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress.
- Identifying student needs and collaborating with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students address social, emotional and academic issues.
- Creating an effective and welcoming environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, instructional materials, bulletin boards, and websites.
- Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Utilizing age and content appropriate aids; maintaining required inventory records.
- Providing supervision and oversight to students throughout assigned work day.
- Administering standardized and local assessments.
- Participating in school improvement initiatives at the school level, committees and collaborative learning teams.
Minimal qualifications include:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
- Possession of ESL endorsement, or eligible for Full Year Basic Permit.
- Bachelor's degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students.
Salary:
Per the HFT Teacher Contract.
